The Monday Brief: Accident Free For 117 Days
Highlight of the week: Crashing a midweek service at Thomas' church (he dared me to write this).
Book(s) I’m reading: After completing Merton's Contemplative Prayer this past week, I'm working on his autobiography, The Seven Storey Mountain, as well as N.T. Wright's Judas and the Gospel of Jesus. Piper fans, while I appreciate your good intention, you do not need to threaten to mail me Piper books to counteract what you perceive as bad in Wright's texts. Yes, this has happened to me and no, I do not appreciate those conversations.
Music I’m digging: The Who's Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 is playing a lot after having discovered it on Palladia recently. Epic. If only I had been there.
Something(s) that blew my mind: Watchmen. I love-love-loved it. The 2:43 running time was no big deal (I honestly never even checked my watch) and I thought it was a beautiful story with an amazing soundtrack (Hendrix + Dylan + Cohen + My Chemical Romance= WIN). I'm not familiar with the graphic novel and I am sure some of the fans are disappointed,
Ministry update: Spent a good chunk of Sunday morning trying to answer the student's questions about what the future holds for the church and the youth programs. I basically told them that I do not know and they will have to ask the church leadership. We also talked a little bit about prayer and the Psalms, but for the most part, it was a time for the students to express their disappointments.
Seminary/ordination update: This week's course topic is on fasting. Which reminds me: I'm hungry.
Corktown update: Rolled out the "2.0" version of the New Way Corktown website. Please check it out and let me know what you think.
Looking forward to:The extra hours at Starbucks this week. The cash is nice.
