Monday Brief: October in August Edition

Highlight of the week: First experiences as a member of the academic staff at Detroit Cristo Rey High School. While I have been involved at the school longer than most, last week was my first that included "teacher" in the description (see Friday's post for more detail).

Book(s) I’m reading: The book shelf went haywire this week as it was one that consisted of lots of starting and little completion (story of my life, eh?). New books started include N.T. Wright's Lord and His Prayer (the theology of the Lord's Prayer) and Archbisgop Kolini's Christ Walks Where Evil Reigned (history and impact of the Rwandan Genocide). Others on the shelf as of last week still remain, including Teresa, Stern and Jacobs.

Music I’m digging: For some unexplainable reason, REO Speedwagon earned a lot of playing time this past week. I TOLD you that my music tastes are rather eclectic (did I mention that I'm going to see Britney for my birthday?!?)

Something(s) that blew my mind: Let me say for the first of many times that the Mercy, Jesuit and Capuchin Franciscan Volunteer Corps are all incredible. Cristo Rey is blessed to have volunteers from all three organizations and I could not be more impressed with all of them (unless, of course, they managed to end world hunger in their spare time).

Ministry update: His Church Anglican (Livonia) moved into new space at Madonna University this Sunday and enjoyed an incredible worship service. Working on a few coffee dates with people who study and work in Detroit. It's incredible to see the trajectory of ministries in both Livonia and Detroit, and just because the NWC blog is temporarily silent doesn't mean nothing is going on, it merely reflects the amount of work we are trying to accomplish before we roll more announcements out. Stay tuned!

Looking forward to: More summer please? It would be really nice if we had a little bit of a warm spell again before these 50 degree nights fully kick in. My tomatoes are barely ripened and we're creeping up on frost weather!
