Thanks to Facebook's new Timeline feature, I have spent a good amount of time reliving lots of status updates, comments and other things I have posted since 2005. By filtering through all of the self-produced noise of the past seven years, I found that I have invested a lot of time on things not worth investing in. It has forced me to consider my own legacy and impact and has led me to several conclusions that I will be sharing in the next couple of weeks.
Through this process, I revisited the things most important to me and reaffirmed my hopes, dreams and goals for the future. In order to see these things through, it has required an active adjustment of my attitude and perspective on time, priorities, sleep, energy, prayer, and people.
As a result, I'm hopeful for this next chapter in my life. But like any traveler in life, I find it easy to slip back into the ruts of insignificant things, of tired excuses and lazy behaviors. I don't want to be identified by those things anymore and I want this website to be one part of an exercise to capture the spirit and behaviors I want to be known for moving forward.
I want to invite you to be part of this journey with me. I want your feedback, your advice, your questions. I value the people in my life and think we can do great things together. I will be focusing my thoughts and energies in the following ways:
Love: Things like serving others, friendships and ways to positively impact humanity. Expect to see things that I learn from marriage, from my family, from teaching, and from TWLOHA on here.
God: This will include teachings from church and lessons learned from my walk as a Third-Order Benedictine.
Detroit: I have learned a lot from living in Detroit. You will see ways we can positively exact change in the city and learn how I believe we can give back to our neighbors in Corktown and the city (and region) at large.
Live: You can expect to read about ways I am altering my own life practices. This will include lessons about identifying priorities, managing time, and becoming a servant leader in our own spheres.
I have also set up an email list for updates. You can expect to receive an email 2-3 times each month focusing on the every day updates and highlighting recommended readings and other things I believe are of value to you. You can opt in or out at any time.
I hope you find all of this to be an extension of me and that you will be blessed by it. I'm excited and hope that you'll engage these conversations with me here on the site, on my public Facebook page and on Twitter. You can always reach out to me via email (I check it a few times each day) and if you're in the Detroit area I would love to get together in person.
