Resolutions 2012 Part III: Giles

Because the resolutions of three of my friends,Bryan, Meg and Robert, were so thought-provoking I have written out my own resolutions for 2012. I have categorized them in "Life Accounts" according to the Life Plan model that Michael Hyatt teaches in is free resources and will be highlighting a different "Life Account" each day. Today's resolutions are all about my wonderful wife Giles.

  • Adopt a dog.
    • We have been casually planning on doing this since 2009 but we have always ended up delaying for some reason. But each time we visit my parents we're reminded about how wonderful having dogs is and so finally, this is the year that we get a dog.
  • Take a weekend trip every six months and one week-long vacation this year.
    • This does not seem like a whole lot but the between our work schedules we do not travel, together, very often. I plan these to be trips not involving traveling to see our families but just completely random and interesting locations. You know, "vacations."
  • Establish a Monthly Review.
    • One of the things we're going to do is meet with each other once a month and talk about our goals. How did we do that month, how are we looking for the next month, essentially a business meeting to make sure we are on the track we want to be on. A few people I respect have recommended this and Giles and I are looking forward to implementing this in our marriage.
  • Weekly Date Nights.
    • For the first few years of our marriage, time and debt were significant hurdles to this. Last year was a milestone year for us (5 years of marriage, paid off a bunch of college debt) and we both have some evenings free now so we're going to spend an evening together each week, perhaps doing nothing, perhaps going to dinner or a movie or something. You know, what people do when they go on dates.
  • Genealogy Weekends.
    • We're both family genealogists and enjoy the responsibility of piecing together all sorts of history. I plan on making sure we get to some of the places that are important to both of our families (Ontario for both of us, Manitoba for Giles, etc.) so that we can continue to explore the heritage and legacies of our ancestors.

Question: If you have a spouse/partner/significant other, have you made any resolutions for their sake?
