Moving Forward as the Body of Christ
On Monday my friend Joe (the Pastor, not the Plumber) posted his prayers for election day, a short, thoughtful and Christian approach to the election. Now that the election (with a few "too close to call" state races) is over, I call on all of us as Christians to move forward in the name of Christ.
We have differing opinions on the best way to run the country. Some people think that we should be a libertarian country, some think that we're the equivalent of a new version of ancient Israel, and others think we should use the system to reflect love on our neighbors. And there are tons of "in-betweens," "faith priorities," and "non-negotiables" depending on where you fall on the political and theological spectrum.
What's most important is that we, as Christians, recommit to serving Christ in our world, whether its our jobs, our neighborhood or our country. Christians have been backstabbing Christians in the public square a lot of late, something I've written about in the past, but we have to set all of that aside, reconcile with our brothers and sisters, and focus on serving Christ.
There are ways of handling brothers and sister's sins (see Matthew 18) but more importantly, it's time for us the recommit to a message of love and hope in Christ. Nothing in this world can save us, and it's our duty to live lives that represent that. No heroes, no change, no patriotism, no hope in things of the world will bring the kingdom of God to fruition.
It's November 5th. The elections are over, and we will have a new president for 4 years. So whether because of, or despite, the policies of the new administration, let's get out there and love some people. "And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’"
